THE ROLE OF FATONI UNIVERSITY IN EDUCATING FOR PEACE

Fatoni University (FTU), an Islamic higher institute in Thailand, has played its vital role in educating for peace since its establishment. The study aims at : 1) synthesizing the curriculum of Fatoni University in educating for peace, and 2) analyzing activities of Fatoni University for developing students in promoting peace. Qualitative research methodology was employed for this study in order to analyze the role of Fatoni University in educating for peace.
Observation and the documentary research technique were used in collection data. The results found that that 1) Fatoni University employs the integrated Islamic curriculum in educating its students to be graduates who posess leadership skills, moral-ethics, and intend towards building a peaceful society. The curriculum is integrated the teachings of the Qur’an and the Prophetic traditions in its content with integration of acquired knowledge. The university’s core courses for bachelor degree such as Qur’anic courses, Islam and the Way of Life, Communication and Dahwah in Islam, and peace studies are offered for all students; 2) The university designs various activities in order to inculcate its student to possess gradutes’ identities towards promoting peace in societies. Some of FTU significant programs are Halaqah Al-Qur’an Program, Qiyamullai prayer, leadership camp, Nasihah program, Maal-Qur’an, Assalam Relationship Program, workshop, seminars, and academic forum, “Majlis Ilmi”Program, and community service. It is recommented that the university should design various online courses related to peace for students and general public to study based on their interesting. In addition, FTU students should be trained to be more skillful in preaching Islam and peace building based on Islamic worldveiws.
